FLORENCE, Ala. - Jessica Bailey and Catherine Counts, vocal students at the University of North Alabama, have been accepted into the Young Artists division of the Vann Vocal Institute, a two-day workshop for the most talented young voices in Alabama. The workshop will take place March 8 and 9 at Huntingdon College in Montgomery. The Vann Vocal Institute is sponsored by the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra and directed by David Congolesi, a tenor with the Metropolitan Opera Company. Bailey and Counts are two of 60 vocalists selected from an array of applicants ages 16-24. Every vocalist in attendance will receive private, one-on-one training with a vocal coach and will attend four master classes taught by Congolesi and other artists from the Metropolitan Opera, and by artists from the Chicago Lyric Opera Company. Jessica Bailey, a sophomore from Florence, is a vocal student of Gene Anne Gifford. Catherine Counts, a freshman from Muscle Shoals, is a vocal student of Dr. Tiffany Bostic-Brown.
