FLORENCE, AL - The University of North Alabama and Lion Athletics have partnered with WLX Radio, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., to be the new on-air voice of the Lions. The partnership includes broadcasts of athletic events as well as a weekly show highlighting all aspects of the University, from academics to campus events.

"We could not be more pleased to have WLX Radio as our on-air partner," said Dr. Ross Alexander, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. "Their location, as part of Nashville's Big Back Yard initiative, allows UNA to expand its footprint in order to reach all potential audiences in this rapidly growing area, while better serving our area as the region’s premier university."

WLX will broadcast all UNA football and men’s and women’s basketball games locally on 98.3 and 103.5 FM, beginning with the Lions’ football season-opener at Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 4. The partnership also includes a weekly show that will air throughout the academic year and highlight UNA's academic programs, faculty and staff, campus events, and more.

"We are all so excited about our partnership with WLX, establishing the broadcast home of the University of North Alabama," said Kevin Haslam, Vice President for University Advancement and Interim Athletic Director. "The multiple platforms, and subsequent coverage areas that WLX reaches, will give us a voice with alumni, friends, and prospective students in areas previously not reached on a consistent basis. Through the great collaboration between UNA, the Department of Athletics, the Department of Communication, University Communications and Marketing, and WLX, this partnership will bless and serve multiple constituencies while raising awareness of the many great things happening at UNA and the incredible opportunities that exist here."

WLX Radio's coverage area includes Southern and Central Tennessee and North Alabama. Programming is available via the station's multiple radio frequencies as well as on their social media pages and their WLX app, available in all app stores.

"WLX's roots are firmly planted in North Alabama, having signed on from Lexington 40 years ago," said Ben Luna, WLX General Manager. "We are very excited about our partnership with UNA and the many possibilities this brings to the region, from academic growth to community service opportunities."

In addition to WLX's radio frequencies, the station’s digital weather outlet, Tennessee Valley Weather, will be an active participant in the partnership, providing timely weather information to the athletics department and access to its dual polarimetric Doppler radar for the University’s STEM programs.
