FLORENCE, Ala. - The Alabama House of Representatives Tourism and Travel Committee will visit the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival this Friday and Saturday.
"The George Lindsey Film Festival gets bigger and better each year," said Rep. Mike Curtis (D-Florence), who arranged the committee's visit to the festival. "Our area is unmatched in the quality of partnerships and cooperation between many different organizations, and I am excited for the committee to see that firsthand." In addition to attending festival activities and touring the University of North Alabama campus, the committee will meet Saturday regarding a bill to change the Alabama state song. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow (D-Red Bay), would designate the poem and music "Alabama," by Julia Tutwiler and Edna Gockel-Gussen, as the Alabama state anthem and the song "Stars Fell on Alabama" as the Alabama state song. Under existing law, "Alabama" is designated as the state song. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the Guillot University Center Loft on the campus of UNA. The meeting is open to the public. "I'd like to thank Mike Curtis for his hard work in bringing the Tourism and Travel Committee to the Lindsey festival," said Morrow, committee chair. "It gives us a chance to show other legislators the many attractions that North Alabama has to offers, as well as the impact of tourism in the area."About The University of North Alabama
